Self-Publishing Workshop Sept. 22 in Fairfax

fall for the bookEvery fall Fairfax, VA is inundated with authors and book lovers thanks to the Fall for the Book Festival. A week long festival organized by George Mason University and the city of Fairfax offers a huge variety of workshops, author meet and greets, performances, and exhibitions for book enthusiasts, writers, would be writers and publishers.

And Possibilities Publishing is thrilled to be involved this year, with our workshop and panel discussion The Secrets of Self-Publishing – Sunday September 22, 2013 from 3:00-4:15 @ The Sherwood Center in Fairfax. The panelists will include authors Cindy Kane, Sumi Sexton, and Nevin Martell, and will be moderated by myself – one of those perks of being the CEO 🙂 Each author has had different experiences with self-publishing and traditional publishing and will share what they’ve learned and what they recommend. I will also discuss the technology and nuts and bolts of self-publishing your writing.

It may seem odd for a publishing company to be encouraging people to publish their work on their own, but I believe that self-publishing is the right choice for some people, but not necessarily for others, but how is anyone going to know for sure if they don’t have all the information? Additionally, Possibilities Publishing Company is a hybrid built on picking from the parts of the self-publishing model and parts of traditional publishing model to build a new kind of publishing company that I feel bridges a widening gap between the two models. As such, it benefits me for any potential authors to understand the world of self-publishing so they understand those aspects of the PPCo model.

Another workshop I highly recommend is:
Living to Tell About It – a panel discussion on the art of true storytelling
Tuesday, September 24th, 12:00PM. Panel hosted by storyteller and improv genius Shawn Westfall.  Panelists include storytelling stars David Supley Foxworth, Jessica Robinson, Ellouise Schoettler and Anna Marie Trester.

And the Better Said Than Done storytelling performance: Fall for It: Stories about Following a Dream, Being Duped, or Falling Hard
Thursday, September 26th, 7:00PM. Join storytellers David Supley Foxworth, Mike Kane, Len Kruger, Meredith Maslich, Chuck Na, Jessica Robinson, and Ellouise Schoettler for this free storytelling show as part of George Mason’s “Fall for the Book Festival”@ Auld Shebeen in Fairfax. And I’m not just promoting this because I’m in the show. It would be a great night of true stories without me 🙂

So if you have a manuscript and you’re wondering the best method to get it out into the world, or you’re just curious about what all this talk of self-publishing is, OR, if you are simply a fan of Cindy, Sumi or Nevin and want the chance to hear them talk and get an autographed copy of their book, this is your chance! See you at the Festival!
