I’m a huge believer in good dialogue being the difference between a mediocre story and a great story. No, it’s not the only thing that can make or break a story, not by a long shot, but its a very, very important element – and one that gets overlooked way too often.
Now there is science to explain why dialogue has such power. It has to do with the way descriptive words light up certain parts of the reader’s brain, and why passive verbs and cliches have little effect.
