Did you know that you can give someone a specific digital book as a gift? Until recently if someone on your gift giving list had an e-reader, your only choice was to give them a gift card, which can be a great gift, but it can also feel somewhat impersonal. But now all that has changed! Both Amazon and Barnes and Noble allow you to give ebooks as gifts. And its really easy to do.
On Amazon, find the digital book you want to give, then in the right hand column you’ll see a button that says “Give as a Gift” – right above the “Wish List” button. After you click that, you’ll be able to enter the email address of the recipient, as well as schedule when it will be delivered – which is the coolest part because you can do your shopping whenever but still have the gift delivered on the exact day you want. Then you can add a personal note and preview what the email will look like when the recipient opens it. The hardest part is deciding which book to give!
On Barnes & Noble’s website, find the book you want to give, then under the Nook listing, to the right of the orange “Buy Now” button you’ll see “Buy as Gift” written in small blue type. Click on that, fill in all the boxes, including a personalized message and then below that you’ll see where it says “Date”, and the default will be Today, but next to it in small blue type it says “(Edit)”. Click on that if you want to schedule a future delivery date. Then click Submit and you’re all set!
May you and yours have a happy, and well read, Holiday Season!
