Small, Indie Publisher Seeks Marketing Intern

intern graphicPossibilities Publishing Company is a small, independent publishing company that is growing fast and could probably be growing even faster if we had someone focused just on marketing. So we would like to add a marketing intern to our small and scrappy team. We’re looking for someone with an interest and background in the field — whether from real-world experience or because you’re studying marketing in college.

Basic responsibilities:

  • Designing and managing marketing campaigns for individual books.
  • Helping the company build its brand identity.
  • Maintaining and growing our list of media contacts and book reviewers.
  • Writing and distributing press releases and media kits.
  • Setting up author events such as book tours and speaking engagements.
  • Helping us expand and deepen our social media presence.
  • Other duties as assigned, discovered, or desired.

We embrace a team atmosphere and value creative thinking and unique approaches to challenges. So a good fit for us is someone who is creative and innovative, very organized, extremely reliable, able to work independently while still functioning as part of a team and who has a good sense of humor and reliable access to the Internet. Experience or education in the area of brand development and an interest in books and publishing are pluses.

We are a virtual office, so the position is not tied to a geographic location, although slight preference might be given to candidates in the Northern Virginia area if you are interested in event planning.

Ideally, we’d have your attention for about 10-15 hours a week, but we’re more focused on outcomes than hours. Also, because you’d be working from home (or a coffee shop or wherever), it would be pretty hard for us to track your hours.

Although we can’t offer a salary, we can offer you a LOT of opportunities to beef up your resume and build a portfolio. And books. We can totally give you free books. You will also have a great deal of freedom to design, execute, and manage marketing campaigns, brand development, and events, and you will work closely with the CEO and the Director of Social Media as well as some of our authors.

Possibilities Publishing Company is in its third year with a current catalog of 10 books and three releases scheduled for 2015. We publish both e-books and print books. Poke around our website to learn more about us and the books we publish.
