FAIRFAX, VA – September 16, 2013 – Four authors will share their advice and tips for those interested in learning how to self-publish at the upcoming 2013 Fall for the Book Festival. The Secrets of Self-Publishing workshop, to be held on September 22, 2013 from 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm, will provide a detailed look inside the world of self-publishing—from the mechanics of self-publishing to the pros and cons, and the challenges of self-promotion and marketing your book. Panelists will include Victor Garlock, author of Your Genius Within; Cindy Kane, author of the blog and book Bad Mommy Moments; Dr. Sumi Sexton, author of Pacifiers Anonymous; and Nevin Martell, author of Looking for Calvin and Hobbes, and the forthcoming book Freak Show Without a Tent. The panel will be moderated by Meredith Maslich, CEO of Possibilities Publishing Company.

About the Authors/Panelists

Victor P. Garlock, Ph.D. has taught psychology and education courses at a community college, a liberal arts college, a private vocational institute, and a maximum security prison. As a psychotherapist Dr. Garlock has utilized hypnotherapy and dream interpretation in this work for over 30 years. Upon its publication on July 15, 2012 Your Genius Within remained in the Top 100 books on Amazon in the category of Dreams for over four months and spent more than two of those months in the Top 10 of its category.

Cindy Kane is a graduate of the Writing for Film and Television program of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She blogs at badmommymoments.com and has published two books. Her first book, Bad Mommy Moments is a humorous compilation of prose, poetry, photography, and graphics that tracks the two-year storm of new motherhood through the mind of a woman who struggled to adjust.

Her newest book, The Journey Stories, is a collection of Christmas Eve and Easter vignettes told through the eyes of an out-casted mother fighting for the life of her son. Cindy lives in Virginia with her husband, two daughters, and Maggie, the golden retriever who neither swims nor retrieves.

Dr. Sumi Makkar Sexton is an assistant professor of family medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington  DC, and is a founding partner and President of Premier Primary Care Physicians in Arlington, Virginia (www.premierprimarycare.com). She is also an associate editor for American Family Physician, the best-read journal in the field of primary care. She is the co-author of the book Pacifiers Anonymous, is a charming and informative guide that answer all questions about the pacifier and the thumb.

Nevin Martell writes about food, travel, and culture for the Washington Post, Wine Enthusiast, Plate, and many others. He is the author of five books, including The Founding Farmers Cookbook: 100 Recipes for True Food & Drink, which will be published by Andrews McMeel in October and Freak Show Without a Tent, which will be published by Possibilities Publishing in the spring of 2014.
